To dine at Palo, you must make a reservation, dress up a bit and leave the kids behind in the ships' included kids clubs. That combination elevates the ambiance compared to the other 97% of the ship, where the atmosphere is more casual and family-friendly. Our server highly recommended the Chocolate Souffle, and it did not disappoint. It took 20 minutes to prepare, and was every bit worth it. The outsides are definitely fried, but not crunchy, and the insides are smooth and creamy. The parmesan and rosemary sprinkled over the top was all the dressing they needed. I can assure you that brunch or dinner at Palo is the best $50 you can spend with Disney while at sea. It's such a refined (but still comfortable and not stuffy) place to enjoy one of the best meals of your life. Your only regret will not be having more room in your belly for more than one chocolate souffle. However, while the included restaurants are generally well done and absolutely worth experiencing, they are serving hundreds of guests at a time. You can also do this ahead of time when you book your Disney Palo Dinner reservation online before your cruise. Whatever your personal tastes for food for dinner you really will find something that you enjoy on the Disney Palo Dinner menu. The servers on Disney Cruise Lines are exceptional – and those in Palo are very knowledgeable about the food and wine that the restaurant has to offer. While enjoying the ambience, you can indulge in a menu filled with Asian and California fusion dishes. One of the most popular, and my favorite dish on the menu, is the black truffle pasta purseittes tossed in a creamy Champagne sauce. Brunch is a more casual affair than dinner but no less delicious at $50.
We are the type of people who take great pleasure in quality food and great wine. Those with a preference for quantity might not feel this experience is worth the cost. Next, we were served a pillowy soft potato gnocchi with pine nuts and a basil pesto Prosecco wine sauce. This bite was paired with a sampling of Banfi’s Chianti Classico Riserva ($64/bottle). Chianti is not one of my go-to wines so I can’t offer a lot of input here. I can say that this was a tasty pairing and neither of us left any food or wine behind.
Women wear strappy leather or fabric dress sandals to Palo all the time, and I’ve never seen a woman asked to change because of this. Once every stateroom has some sort of Palo reservation, then call DCL and explain the situation – you want to dine together, but weren’t all able to get the same reservation time. If you end up a good DCL agent, they may be able to tweak this over the phone. If you have a less proficient agent, call back or try to work it out once you’re onboard (at that first day dining remediation desk). There is a very good chance that they’ll work it out for you.
Next time we’d skip this and instead get the Beef Tenderloin. The Lobster and Mascarpone Ravioli was recommended by our server, and we’re glad we ordered it. There was ample lobster in this, and the flavors balanced perfectly.
The $50 price tag certainly isn't too much to ask for all that. It has amazing ambiance, themed after the Italian city of Venice, and naturally serves delicious Northern Italian Cuisine. It also has the Best View on-board the Disney Magic, offering 270-degree views of the sea. The Champagne brunch combines buffet choices with made-to-order items delivered to your table.
Reservations are required for the nursery and there is a fee for sitting there. Palo is the Magic’s one upscale restaurant, and is its own little island of adult serenity and food. Service is very good, and don’t be surprised if the maître ‘d and your server are from Italy. After all that indulgence, the dessert menu felt like a trap, but one that I gleefully fell into. I wanted to appear at least a little reasonable, so I only ordered one treat — the warm amaretto chocolate fondant with hazelnut gelato and mocha chocolate soil.
If you want to create your own multi-course masterpiece, you can do that, too. If Wagyu steak is on your list of favorites, you can enjoy six ounces starting at just $20, which isn't bad as far as Wagyu goes. The mixture of temperature and texture (and chocolate) was too good to have just one bite, so even though stomach space was at a premium, I enjoyed as much of the dessert as I could. Panna Cotta is cocked cream, which I promise you is much better than it sounds. The accompaniments weren’t my favorite, but if you like panna cotta it’s a good choice.
